WHAT IS MILLING

Milling is the process of cutting away material by feeding a workpiece past a rotating multiple tooth cutter. The cutting action of the many teeth around the milling cutter provides a fast method of machining. The machined surface may be flat, angular, or curved. The surface may also be milled to any combination of shapes. The machine for holding the workpiece, rotating the cutter, and feeding it is known as the Milling machine.
A milling machine is a machine tool used for the shaping of metal and other solid materials. Its basic form is that of a rotating cutter which rotates about the spindle axis (similar to a drill), and a table to which the workpiece is affixed
The movement is precisely controlled, using slides and leadscrews.
Milling machines may be operated manually/
two main types of mill: the vertical mill and the horizontal mill
vertical mills have spindles tt are vertically orientated
Milling cutters are held in the spindle and rotate on its axis
the table can be raised/lowered, giving the same effect), allowing plunge cuts and drilling
differrent drill bits can be fitted onto the machine for diff purposes
and different drill chuck can be used to fit in smaller drill bits
once the drill bits are fitted into the milling machine,
the machine can then be operated and be used to drill, mill etc...
tt is how the milling machine works...

The process of assembling the model car.

We started out by separating the parts of the car. We decided to do part by part.
We did the wheels and then fitted them into the rear end and front end respeectively. An orange gear was placed both at the rear end and front end. The orange gears were easily placed as they were both exactly the same.

On to the next section, we did the chasis of the car. We attached the electrical parts(bronzy metal parts) inside the chasis of the car. With that being done, we continued with gearing the car. The two small purple gears were attached to the engine and the engine was then placed in its location. Once a gain, a second type of gear the bue gear which are both exactly the same were placed at the front and rear end of the car.A plastic piece which covers the engine and the gears was placed. This does it for the gearing and motoring of the car.

The next part to attach the rear end and the front end to the chasis of the car. After this was done, we placed the top part of the car over the chasis and sealed it with a plastic piece.

The group then moved on to the decoration of the car.

Difficulties faced by the Group

Problem:Inially the overwhelming number of parts made the car seem rather tedious and dificult to complete.

Solution: The solution was to do part by part of the car. Starting out with the rear and front end as those seemed to be the easiest to do.

Overall Experience

The overall experience was an enjoyable and fruitful one. The process enlightened us on the overall formation of the car and also set us thinking on the possible designs for the chasis of the car.
